. Birdhouse for the Eastern Phoebe
HABITAT Near waters’ edges, lakes, rocky cliffs, leafy or mixed woodlands. NESTING The Eastern Phoebe chooses a location that provides a solid base, underneath bridges, cornices of old buildings or barns, cornice of a cliff, or birdhouses specially adapted for this species. The construction is large and well-made; built of soil (not always) mixed with rootlets, grass, twigs, and moss; decorated with fine grass, hair, and vegetable fibers. It is constructed entirely or almost entirely by the female within a period of three (3) to six (6) days. Exterior diameter: 11.4 cm Height: 10.2 cm, Interior diameter: 6.4 cm Depth: 4.4 cm.

Eggs, three (3) to five (5), appr. : 19 x 14 mm, oval. The shell is smooth and either matte or slightly glossy, white but occasionally sprinkled with small brownish spots. Incubation is assured by the female towards the end of May and lasts between 14 and 16 days. The young are born altricial. Education is assured by both parents; the young leave the nest after 15 to 17 days and are nourished by the adults for a period of two (2) to three (3) weeks.
