Northern Flicker, Colaptes auratus

This woodpecker is widespread in Canada and the USA. It inhabits coniferous or mixed forests as well as road sides, farmlands and orchards. It has the peculiarity of feeding on ants, but favors also fat and suet, as well as peanut butter. It breeds between March (Southern US) to June (Canada).
